Information about student progress and work completion may be obtained from the student on a daily basis. This daily dialogue is an important aspect of the parent/child relationship relative to academic progress. Students will also be given their MiStar Passwords so that they can access the Student Portal and check on grades that way. Parents will also have their own log in for the Parent Portal. To help foster parent/child communication, students are given a planner at the beginning of each year.
Use of the Student Planner on a daily basis:
·Relays information about daily learning and homework assignments. ·Encourages students to be organized and focused. ·Helps students plan for completion of long-term projects. ·Offers students an opportunity to set and reflect on their goals. While educators at the middle school value communication with parents, teachers do not provide parents with daily or weekly reports on student progress or individual assignments because that does not encourage growth of student responsibility or communication between child and parent. They also respond to requests for information pertaining to grades for students on plans of assistance. Middle school is a time for students to make a transition from the dependent learning environment of the elementary school to the independent learning required for success at the secondary level. Parents support student learning by establishing academic expectations at home, requiring students to spend time during the week studying, reviewing, and preparing for the next school day, and making education a family priority. Learning is ultimately the responsibility of each student. |
